Southern Museum gearing up for sixth annual ‘Trains’ event

The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Ga., will host its annual “Trains, Trains, Trains” event at the end of the month.

The sixth annual installment of the popular railroad-themed event will for the first time be held over two days. “Trains,” which was previously a one-day event, will run from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on both Saturday, Jan. 30, and Sunday, Jan. 31.

This year’s event will feature even more model train layouts than previous years, and guests will have the opportunity to interact and operate select layouts. Festivities will also feature activities for families and an expanded General Emporium gift store selling a wide range of train-themed merchandise.

Athens Bend Track will set up the event’s first-ever N-Scale layout, and the Middle Georgia Model Railroad Club and the Chattanooga Modular Modelers will also erect layouts at “Trains” for the first time. The Georgia Tinplate Trackers and the North Georgia Lego train club are also on the docket to participate this year.

The Mars Hill Porch Pickers band will headline the live music slate.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore and interact with rare railroad artifacts from the Museum’s extensive archive collection. In addition, the Museum’s regular displays — including the historic General locomotive and the Glover Machine Works — will be open during the event.

Museum admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12 and free for children three and under as well as Museum members; coupons and discounts will not be accepted on the day of the event. For more information, visit southernmuseum.org.
