Statement on The Center Square

Nine days before my tenure at The Center Square ended, I asked an editor what constitutes success. He couldn’t give a clear, concise answer. Seeing how the site is apparently struggling, that should tell you everything you need to know. The site needs a clear direction.

I say this because we deserve more from our media, and The Center Square should play an important role in informing the public. Sadly, the country is less informed when the media resorts to rehashing politicians’ tweets. And we wonder why politicians act the way they do.

However, change requires organizations to recognize their shortcomings and commit to act. Repeating the same failed approach does little to change the trajectory of the media, and it does even less to ensure the public is informed.
